Water alerts: a remote sensing disc or a direct-placement detector?

Moen 920-004 and Kidde 60WLDR-W suit different placement needs. Start with the low point you can reach, then consider power, connectivity and how you will respond to an alert.

Place for the path of water

Use an accessible low point near the appliance or fitting you want to watch. A sensor cannot alert to water that never reaches it. Moen’s remote disc can reach away from its main detector; Kidde needs room for the detector itself on a clean, dry, level non-metallic surface.

Plan the response as well as the alert

Keep access for battery replacement and testing. Remote notifications rely on the home connection; receiving an alert still leaves someone to investigate the leak and arrange a repair. Neither standalone detector closes a valve.

Wi-Fi Water Leak + Freeze Detector

Direct-placement leak alerts

For an accessible indoor low point where a small battery-powered detector can sit directly and send leak or low-temperature alerts.

It does not physically shut off the water supply or monitor every concealed leak.
