Separate closing, latching and frame problems
Note whether the panel rubs, closes too quickly, stops before reaching the latch or has a loose handle. Photograph the whole door, closer brackets and any visible damage. Do not force a bent closer or a loose frame. A short description of when the symptom occurs helps distinguish an adjustment request from damage that needs replacement parts.
Identify parts before ordering
Look for the manufacturer’s model or serial label in an accessible location. Storm-door closers, handles and mounting brackets are not all interchangeable. Andersen, for example, publishes model-specific closer replacement instructions. Ask whether the existing frame and attachment points are sound enough for the proposed repair before buying a matching-looking part.
Compare the finished result
Repair may make sense when the door structure is sound and compatible parts remain available. Broader damage, worn panels or unavailable components can justify comparing replacement. Include removal, hardware, frame preparation and any finish repair in that comparison. This is an exterior-door scope; the planner’s interior-door adjustment rate does not automatically apply.
