This model is designed around supported 24-volt HVAC controls. Before comparing app features, identify the heating and cooling equipment and check its wiring against ecobee’s compatibility information. The included Power Extender Kit can help in compatible installations without a C-wire; its presence does not make an incompatible system suitable.
The SmartSensor supplies room occupancy and temperature information. That can be useful when the thermostat’s own location does not represent the room you care about. It still informs the existing heating and cooling system: adding a sensor does not install dampers or create independent room-by-room control.
This is worth comparing when you want temperature decisions to include a room away from the thermostat. If the underlying problem is uneven airflow, poor insulation or equipment performance, keep that investigation separate. Compare it with the T9 sensor kit by actual system compatibility and how you want to manage room priorities, not an assumed household savings figure.
