Write down the job conditions
Is this a dry interior baseboard, a window detail exposed to moisture or exterior trim? Do you want a painted or visible-grain finish? Record the existing profile’s height and projection. Where trim is swollen or stained, identify the moisture issue before covering it. New trim does not correct a leak or damaged material behind it.
Compare products by their intended use
MDF, solid wood and cellular PVC are different product families; verify the selected product’s interior/exterior and moisture suitability rather than relying on the material name alone. Wood offers grain and species choices for a stained appearance. Manufacturers such as Westlake Royal offer PVC trim for specified interior and exterior applications. Fastening, joints, coatings and movement details must follow the chosen product’s instructions.
Compare installed and finished cost
Material price is only part of the work. Removal, fitted corners, transitions, filling, caulking and painting can change the total. Ask whether VPS is quoting installation-ready material or finished painted trim. Share an existing offcut if available, and approve a visible sample before a whole-room replacement when matching matters. The trim planner rate covers agreed skilled labor; materials and finishing need their own scope.
