- Where are the nip points, rollers, belts, chains and transfer points on this conveyor, and which guards keep people out of them?
- What is the normal method for clearing a jam or retrieving material without reaching into moving equipment?
- Where is the emergency stop, who can reach it, and has the crew confirmed what it does and does not isolate?
- What lockout/isolation is required before a guard is removed or anyone reaches into the conveyor?
- Has anyone dealt with a conveyor jam that looked easy to reach? What made the difference between a safe isolation and a risky shortcut?
Make it real on the job
Point out the actual nip/transfer points, emergency stop and lockout/isolation location, then have a crew member explain the jam-clearing sequence.
Close the talk
Before the crew starts, everyone should be able to explain the hazard, point to the control being used today, and name the condition that would make the work stop.
